Dehydration - Bard Care

What is Dehydration?

Dehydration occurs when your body takes in insufficient water or other fluids to replace those it is losing.

 

Symptoms of Dehydration

These can include:

  • being thirsty
  • urine which is a darker yellow and stronger smelling than usual
  • dizziness or feeling lightheaded
  • being tired
  • your mouth, lips or eyes feel dry
  • urinating fewer than 4 times a day, and in small quantities

You are more susceptible to dehydration if you have:

  • diabetes
  • vomiting or diarrhoea
  • heatstroke, from spending too long in the sun
  • drunk an excess of alcohol
  • sweated a lot after a period of exercise
  • a high temperature of 38ºC or higher
  • been taking diuretics (medicines that make you urinate more)
