The Bard Nursing Team

Our team of fully qualified, experienced specialist nurses, provides clinical and educational support for continence management, including indwelling catheter issues, tuition of Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) and the assessment and fitting of urinary sheaths, to both patients and healthcare professionals.

The Bard Specialist Nurses will accept referrals from NHS professionals to support their patients.  Each nurse is qualified and competent to carry out bladder scanning and patient assessment as well as giving advice and training on all prescribed continence products.  Our nurses can also offer educational study days and / or nursing support for ISC, Indwelling catheters and sheath assessment.  Our nurses will also undertake joint visits with a Healthcare Professional if requested.

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP
The team are RGN/RN qualified and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council following the Professional Code of Conduct at all times.  They are also members of the Royal College of Nursing.

EDUCATION
All nurses have a continence or urology background and undergo an appraisal process twice yearly to identify areas for development.  Attendance at national conferences ensures they are updated with the latest practices and innovations.

RISK ANALYSIS
All patient visits are risk assessed, to determine if a joint visit is required.  The nursing service has a risk analysis procedure to identify any risks which may become evident during an episode of clinical care.  This risk may be to the patient, healthcare professional or anyone else involved in the patient’s care.

RECORD KEEPING
Nursing notes are compiled for all patients referred to the Bard Nursing Service.  These are stored electronically and held according to the regulations of the Data Protection Act.

INSURANCE
Each nurse has indemnity insurance to cover against claims of professional negligence.

DISCLOSURE AND BARRING ALL SERVICE (DBS)
In line with current legislation all nurses are DBS checked prior to employment.
